I have been asked before what I prefer, natural light studio or home for a lifestyle newborn session. And I always answer with BOTH!! Super helpful I know, but let me explain. There are perks to both that not everyone would maybe think of.  With an at home session you can get the cute nursery shots and get to be in your own environment. While I love how intimate and personal shooting in someone’s home can be, what if you don’t love your house right now? Or want to have to clean the whole thing after just having a baby less than two weeks ago for that matter. Here’s where a natural light studio is such a perfect option! Guaranteed amazing light, clean and simple. You show up, shot and go home without having to do a single load of laundry or vacuum your floors.

Having our own natural light studio (Station Studio) has made the world of difference for sessions like this one. I am familiar with the light and how best to use it during my sessions. I also love that you can stage as much or as little as you or your client would like. The McMurdie’s wanted a minimal look and I think we accomplished just that. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still get plenty of personality and connection. They played, snuggled and loved on their new baby girl the whole time!

What would you prefer for your own family? Does comfy clothes on your own couch sound more your style? Or do you love the fresh look of a studio that might look nice on the walls of your baby’s nursery. There are so many fun options when planning ahead for your own lifestyle session. But one of my favorite parts about the new direction of studios is how natural it still is. I am a no fuss photographer when it comes to photographing babies. I want them comfortable in mama’s arms or relaxing on the bed. Something I think you would find all the time at home too.

This is one of my favorite lifestyle family sessions to date. There was so much personality from these two kiddos that day! Between jumping on beds and snack breaks in the hall, I just loved how REAL they felt. I sat back and documented what was going on around me with very little direction. What a perfect way for this family to remember how it felt during this stage of life. Also I had to sneak in a few of just Jacque at the end for her business. She is the talented designer/owner of Cora Mae Design. I am obsessed with all of it! Seriously go check out her site.

You guys. This shoot. I have been dying to share these images on my little neglected blog and finally found a couple minutes to do so! Wedding season kicks my butt sometimes, but with the kids starting school tomorrow (YES!) and getting back to a schedule, I can’t wait to add blogging to my list of things to do more regularly.
So a little back story on how this came to be. I have been wanting to do a greenhouse inspiration shoot for sometime, but wanted a different look. I posted about any personal greenhouses in my area and still came up blank with something that would fit my vision. Imagine my surprise when I found this little gem of a location while doing some real estate photography! I asked the owners if I could come back at another time while the home was still vacant and they loved the idea. The second location was my very own natural light studio that worked out great. From there I enlisted a team of incredible vendors to help bring it to life. And boy was it beautiful! I wanted to keep it simple and fresh and I am so pleased with the end result! Be sure to check out who did what!

Bare with me while I get all sentimental and a little mushy! I’m sitting here reminiscing while pouring over the images from last year’s trip. From day one of our marriage, I told Bryan that we had to make it to Italy by or around our 10 year. We arrived on the day that ten years before he had asked me to be his wife on a bridge in our home town. He gave me a new ring on a bridge in Venice to be a reminder of our trip of a lifetime together and the vow we still hold dear to our hearts. I am forever grateful to have lived my dream of bringing my husband back to some of the places I loved most. Its still hard to believe that we were really there, roaming the streets of these beautiful cities and eating gelato every chance we got. Enjoy!
